Badly Burned Oil Rig Worker Dies of His Injuries

A worker on the Black Elk oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico died from his injuries on Friday after a being hospitalized from the fire and explosion which rocked the platform. This was the second worker to die and one man still remains missing and presumed dead.

The decedant was 49 year old Avelino Tajonera a Philippino welder who was working on the rig. His family travelled to the United States and was at his hospital bedside in New Orleans when he passed.

The accident was said to be caused when a pipe that was being welded caught fire and triggered an explosion on the platform. United States officials reportedly told Black Elk to improve safety conditions at all of it's offshore oil rigs sites. Unless Black Elk has several billion dollars socked away, I suggest they act quickly.

To the families of the men who died on the platform, I am sorry for your losses.
