Ford Escapes Recalled Due to Potential to Catch Fire

Ford Motor Company recalled 11,500 brand new 2013 Ford Escapes due to a potential gas leak that could catch fire. The reason for the recall is because the fuel lines in the new vehicles had a propensity to split and leak fuel in the engine compartment. Fuel leaks in the engine area are more likely to catch fire than in other parts of the car because it is so hot under the hood of most cars.

This recall was so serious that the Los Angeles Times reported Ford dealers were going to the homes of customers to pick up the cars, drop off replacement cars and repair the problem.

The new Escapes are one of Ford's best selling cars and what of the hottest selling cars in the nation. This recall comes as a huge blow to Ford who recently had to recall another 10,000 escapes because of a problem with where they put the carpet padding under the brake pedal. The misplaced padding is said to be a potential problem for activating the brake pedals in the Escapes. Not being able to quickly or fully activate the brake pedal could cause delays in stopping or increase the stoppig distance of the vehicle.

Ford has said that nobody has been injured yet as a result of the fuel line fires but at least three Escapes have already caught fire from the problem. No information was given about accidents caused by the carpet padding problem.
