NFL Players Sue League for Head Injuries

NFL Players Sue League for Head Injuries

A group of former National Football League players has filed a federal lawsuit against the National Football League alleging negligent and intentional misconduct in the way the League handled and continues to handle head injuries to players. The suit, filed in federal court in Philadelphia alleges that for years the NFL taught players to lead with their heads while such conduct would bring about serious head injuries to players. Players allege that the League has known about a relationship between playing football and head injury for years and has tried to conceal it from players. The NFL denied knowledge of the suit but claims it will vigorously context any claims of worngdoing.

In another related suit, 75 former NFL players filed a suit in Los Angeles last month. That suit alleged that the League concealed the harmfull effects of concussions which they have known about since about the 1920's. That law suit also names the NFL's official helmet supplier, the Riddell Company.

If class action status is achieved in either or both cases, this could be a very costly action for the NFL. A class action could potentially join any former or current NFL players who have sustained injuries to their heads while playing in the League.

I would encourage any current or former NFL player to contact an injury lawyer in order to determine if you are part of a potential class of injured people or if you have a potential claim for money damages because of head injuries you sustained while playing in the NFL.
