50 year young Joy Covey was killed in a tragic bicycle accident when her bike was struck by a van on a San Mateo County. Covey was the CFO of a company small company called Amazon and was significant force in taking the company public in 1997. With her financial guidance shares of Amazon went from $18 when they first sold to well over $300 per share as of this weekend.
Covey left Amazon in 2000 to focus on her interests in environmental issues and she established the Beagle Foundation and worked with other well known environmental organizations.
Her tragic story caught my eye not because she worked for Amazon but because she started work there in 1996, the same year I started practicing law. I am thus saddened that this person lost her life at such a young age even though she has already accomplished so much. My sincere sympathies to your family and friends.
