Toyota Recalls 160,000 Trucks Because Spare Tires Could Fall Off

Toyota Motor Company recalled 160,000 Tacoma pickups in the United States and Canada because the metal plate that holds the spare tire in place was rusting and causing the wheel and tire to fall off. The Tacoma model trucks from 2001 to 2004 have the spare tire and wheel stored under the bed of the truck.

In cold weather climates the tire mount could get corroded and cause the tire and wheel to break off. Toyota indicated that this has happened on more than one occasion but that no injuries are known to have occurred yet.

If you live in a cold place and drive a Toyota Tacoma from 2001 to 2004, visit your local Toyota dealer to see if you should get your spare tire mount replaced. or
