The Dallas Cowboys' own Josh Brent killed his teammate yesterday in a drunken car crash in Irving, Texas. Brent was arrested for manslaughter after his teammate, and long time friend, Jerry Brown was killed in a rollover traffic collision. The two men have been friends since they played together in college at the University of Illinois.
The national Football League does not need another trajedy like this after the recent murder suicide by Kansas City's Jovan Belcher. Belcher was said to have been drinking heavily the night before and woke up to commit a murder and kill himself with a firearm.
As for Josh Brent, he was arrested in college for DUI, but I suppose he did not learn his lesson by being jailed for 60 days and ordered to perform community service.
The NFL says they do what they can to prevent DUI's within the league. They offer a car service to any NFL players at a cost of $85 per ride. This seems liek a bargain to me: please see my article on the cost of a DUI http://www.4criminaldefense.com/Areas-of-Practice/The-Truth-About-Your-DUI.aspx
To the families of Jerry Brown and Kasandra Perkins, Jovan Belcher and Josh Brent, I am sorry for your losses and hope you are all able to find peace after these trajedies.
