Tragically, another person appears to have died following Lap Band surgery at a West Hills, California surgery center doing business as Valley Surgical Center. This business is another location that gets referrals from "1-800-GETTHIN". The owners of the surgery center, Julian and Michael Omidi were partners in a joint venture with both surgery centers and marketing from 1-800-GETTHIN.
No strangers to litigation the Omidis have been involved in litigation with the Los Angeles Times as well as other plaintiff's making allegations of wrongdoing. The Omidi's did not fair well with their attempt at suing the Times. They were kicked out of court and ordered to pay the Times litigation costs.
As for 55 year old Paula Rojeski who died, I wish her family and friends the best of luck in handling their time of trajedy. And, while no amount of money can ever bring back a loved one, please know that litigation serves more than the purpose of lining one's pockets. It may also serve the purpose of punishing someone for their serious wrongdoing. Litigation could help keep a wrongdoer from harming others. It could also give rise to or aid in an invetigation by the state medical board.
In this case, it appears that at least one of the Omidi's has previously been disciplined by the Medical Board. This does appear to be unrelated to the Lap Band.
