If you are Hurting, Go See a Doctor

If you have beeninjured in an auto accident, or any other accident which may have caused you an injury, several things seem to happen at the same time. First, it's often a very upsetting circumstance. Your day gets disrupted, you might miss work and your car or other property may be seriously damaged. Don't forget about yourself and your physical/medical condition after an acccident.

When I am working to try to negotiate a settlement in an injury case, one of the common responses I hear from insurance adjusters is: "Your client waited ___ days to treat". This means that the client was not treated by a doctor right away.

I know that we all have things going on in our lives which are important. We have jobs, families, responsibilities, etc. We all have priorities and unless we are unconscious and get taken to the hospital, going to see a doctor seems to get put on the back burner. Unfortunately, when we put off seeing a doctor after we get injured, it makes the injury look to others as being less serious. Additionally, the fewer medical bills we have after an injury, the less serious the injury looks.

In fact, it's fairly simple logic: If an ambulance takes us from the scene of an accident directly to the hospital, there is a better than likely chance that we were seriously injured in the accident. And, even if the injuries were not serious, the emergency room visit makes the injuries seem more serious. If that's not enough, the bills from the ER will really help to bolster our settlement negotiations.

Don't be your own worst enemy. If you injured, go see a doctor. See the doctor before you call the lawyer, not after. Now, if you can't afford to see a doctor and you have been injured in an accident, sometimes, lawyers can help get clients medical care that can be paid for at a later date. If your insurance company can't get you an appointment to see a doctor for days or weeks, your lawyer might be able to get you in to see a doctor the same day or the very next day.
