Pedestrian Killed By Hit and Run Driver in Santa Monica

In a tragic early morning traffic collision, a 61 year old woman from Wisconsin was struck and killed by a hit and run driver the in Santa Monica. The woman was visiting her daughter in the Santa Monica when the two were both his by the car as they attempted to cross Ocean Avenue about 1:00 a.m. Saturday morning. The 32 year old daughter survived with only minor injuries and the driver fled the scene in what was described as a silver colored sports car with darkly tinted windows.

Authorities were seeking local surveillance video to help identify the suspects and/or the suspect vehicle that failed to yield or render or call assistance after the accident. Police initially indicate that the two pedestrians were crossing the street outside of a marked cross walk. Little additional information was released by law enforcement.

This area of Ocean Avenue is described as being plagued by traffic collisions. It is a very busy street which is close to both the ocean and many businesses and residences. Recent traffic controls have been added to try to slow traffic and reduce the number of traffic collisions in the area.
