12 Year Old Boy Killed Riding His Bike Through Simi Valley

Minding his own business, doing what all little boys should be doing on a holiday weekend, this twelve year old was hit by a truck and killed this weekend. His eight year old companion was unharmed. The same could not be said for the boys mangled bike, which lay twisted and broken after the Fresh and Easy truck ran it down.

Police indicated the truck was pulling out of a parking lot in the area of Alamo and Tapo Street, when it hit the boy on the bike around 8 p.m. the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and no information was released about his name as he is a minor.

Tragedies such as this one remind me that no amount of money can bring back a loved one. We must remember that lessons can be learned by accidents such as this one. Please, where a helmet whenever you ride a bike. Adults, set the example for younsters and where your helmets too. Also, gloves can help to prevent injuries to the hands.

Remember to try to obey traffic laws whenever riding. Stay on the correct side of the road, and as near to the curb as possible. Obey street signs and signal lights and remember, on a bike you are lot smaller than any car, and a lot more vulnerable. When riding at night, always have lights on your bike, both front and back. Try to wear light or reflective clothing as well.

To the family and friends of the boy that was lost this weekend I extend my sincere sorrow for your loss and only hope that some good can come out ot this tragedy.
