17 Year Old Boy Thought Brain Dead After Drowning in County Pool

A 17 year old high school graduate who was on his way to UNLV in the fall is likely brain dead after nearly dying in a County Pool. The Pool located at Jessie Owens County Park was said to be staffed by four lifeguards, none of whom were able to attend to the boy or realize he was drowning until he was under water for about five minutes. The boy who is on life support at this time has been swimming in the local pool for most of his life and authorities were not sure what caused the boy to be helpless at the bottom of the pool. Lifeguards eventually brought the limp body to the serface and performed CPR on him before transferring the boy paramedics for transport to a local hospital. The boy remains hospitalized in critical condition and is thought to have brain damage.

My sympathies go out to the friends and family of Anandre Thomas. I wish Anandre a speedy recovery and successful tenure at UNLV.
