Two separate Southern California bus crashes injured 39 people yesterday. The first crash involved a tour bus returning from the Pala Casino Spa and Resort in San Diego County to the City of Westminster in Orange County. The crash was on the 15 freeway in wet conditions about 2:30 in the afternoon. The driver was described as having been going too fast for the conditions when he lost control of the bus and it flipped over on its side after hitting the center median and guardrail.
CHP officers said there were about thirty passengers on the bus and 24 were injured including the driver. They were all taken to local hospitals and treated for minor to moderate injuries – none were described as critical or fatal. The driver was treated at the scene and it is unknown the 35 year old was cited for his conduct.
In a separate and unrelated accident, a second bus crashed killing one woman also on Interstate 15 in the area of Pala Mesa, California, near State Route 76. 24 other people were injured in this accident the bus they were riding in slid off the road and flipped over. The two accident occurred about 40 miles apart at nearly the same time.
The bus was travelling from Panorama City, California to the Valley View Casino when the accident occurred. Injured parties were relayed to three different area hospitals for treatment of minor to major injuries. The driver, a 56 year old man from Compton, California told CHP he was driving about 55 miles per hour when he lost control of the bus and could not correct it before it overturned. The decedent was a 64 year old woman from Glendale, California. My sympathies go out to the family and friends of the woman who was killed. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
