Yesterday in Pacoima, California, a Metrolink Train crashed into a dump truck at the corner of San Fernando Mission Road and Branford Street. The crash cause remains unknow and news reports were unclear as to whether or not there was a crossing gate at the intersection. There were about 130 people on board the afternoon train and several were transported to the hospital with significant but not life threatening injuries.
Early reports indicate the dump truck was crossing the tracks when it was struck by the train. The crash caused a loss of power and air conditioning on board the train, so in addition to treating the injured, authorities provided water for passengers who were kept on the train pending the investigation.
According to news reports, authorities would not let passengers off the train until their names were recorded by and until the platform could be cleared of other people in order to prevent individuals from trying to board the train to claim they were injured in the crash. Responding firefighters seemed to have a greater concern for preventing false injury claims then they did for treating injured passengers and getting them out of harms way.
