Santa Monica Dog Bite Settles for $325,000

The City of Santa Monica Settled with the family of a 7 year old boy mauled by a pit bull at a local park. The family brought a claim alleging brain damage, pain, suffering and more as a result of a pit bull getting through a defective fence maintained by the City.

The action was settled based upon the City's potential liability for negligence and likely in an effort to avoid a large jury verdict if the case were to proceed to trial. Sometimes, taking the high road and offering a substantial settlement early is better for a defendant than to risk bad press and an adverse jury verdict down the road.
