Lap Band Death Triggers Law Suit

A Lakewood woman died in December just three days after a Lap-Band device was placed around her stomache during an outpatient procedure performed at the Beverly Hills Surgery Center. The family of the deceased woman filed a lawsuit against 1-800-GET-THIN alleging the company falsely represented that their doctor's were top rated and that patients would receive a higher level of service through the company.

The lawsuit alleges that Dr. Daniel Shin was the anethesiologist who administered medication to the 26 year old Tamara Walter. Dr. Shin was on probation with the medical board of California while he administered the anethesia to Walter.

I say that people should not believe everything that they hear or see on the internet. As consumers, we all have a duty to ask questions and perform our due diligence. It is easy to look to see if a California doctor or lawyer has been publicly disciplined by the State. For lawyers in California go to www.calbar.org and for doctors go to www.mbc.ca.gov .

Just as you must check up on your doctor, hiring a lawyer requires the same level of care. Please call me for assistance with checking up on your doctor or your lawyer.
